It began, as these things do, with one dog.
She was a miniature poodle, she was cleverer than we were, and she came everywhere — the beach at six in the morning, the café at nine, the back of the car for the rest of it. Living with a dog like that changes what you will accept from a breed.
Paradore grew out of wanting to do it properly: to learn the pedigrees, to show, to test, and to breed only when a pairing genuinely improved on what came before it. We are registered with the ANKC and we breed under a registered prefix, which means our dogs, our litters and our record are all traceable and accountable.
We are not a large program and we do not intend to become one. A handful of litters a year is what we can raise the way we believe puppies should be raised — in the middle of a household, handled daily, with the time to know each one before deciding where they belong.

Our girls live in the house as pets first. They are temperament tested, health screened and shown, and each one is chosen for what she can contribute to the next generation rather than for what she can produce this year. Studs are selected from outside the program and have, at minimum, achieved their championship.
What health testing actually covers here.
- DNA panel. Breed-relevant DNA screening on both parents, including prcd-PRA and vWD, with results kept on file and shared with you.
- Eyes. Annual ophthalmologist examination and certificate for every breeding dog.
- Patellas & hips. Orthopaedic assessment appropriate to the breed and to the individual dog.
- Full veterinary work-up. Every puppy is vet-checked, microchipped, vaccinated and wormed before leaving, with the paperwork to prove it.
- Written guarantee. A written health guarantee, a desexing contract, and a standing offer: if you ever cannot keep your dog, they come back to us.
Why we ask so many questions.
A miniature poodle is a coated, clever, people-oriented dog. That is wonderful in the right home and genuinely difficult in the wrong one. Grooming is not optional. Being left alone for eleven hours a day is not survivable in any reasonable sense.
So we ask. Not to be difficult, but because the alternative is a dog rehomed at eighteen months, and we would rather have the honest conversation now.
